Senior Investigator: Legal Issues Complaints (OHSC 13/2020) (Ref #: OHSC 13/2020)

Salary: All-inclusive remuneration package of R 1 057 326 per annum (basic salary consists of 70% of total package), employer’s contribution to the Government Employee Pension Fund (13% of basic salary) and a flexible portion. The flexible portion of the package can be structured according to the OHSC guidelines.


  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a legal field.
  • A post-graduate qualification in Medical or Public Health or Law would be an advantage.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a medico-legal or health law field of which 5 years must have been at a middle/senior management or equivalent level.
  • Proficiency in more than one African language.
  • Excellent communication and conflict handling skills. Computer and report writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside of normal working hours.
  • A valid driver’s licence.


  • Develop and manage the OHSC complaints, investigation legal framework and strategy.
  • Review and analyse complaints and investigations findings and reports for legal compliance.
  • Manage responses to requests for investigations arising from the work of the OHSC.
  • Manage the legal review of complaints and investigations resolutions and transfers.
  • Ensure an effective well- functioning legal capability for Complaints and Investigations units.
  • Manage and guide investigators in the Investigation unit on legal matters.
  • Provide support to the Health Ombud investigations and legal issues.
  • Manage all legal service work of the Health Ombud, Complaints and Investigations units including appeals and litigation.
  • Provide assistance to the CEO in managing and monitoring recommendations emanating from the Health Ombud’s reports.
